Why is Facebook becoming so popular?

I am on facebook and with the recent New York Times article (which I have bought but not yet read ) I began to wonder why is facebook so amazing. How did this 19 year old "kid" (Mark Zukerberg) come up with the idea. So in a nutshell, why is facebook so amazing? Is the layout, the soft colors of baby blue and white? or is it something completely different?

Why is Facebook becoming so popular?
I think its the simplicity of the layout (although with the new applications being added, facebook is becoming more complex). Also, if you join a network, such as a college, i think its easier to find people on their that you know.

Reply:honestly....its because of the name...just like how "blogs" got popular and "myspace" people liked teh word "blog" and people liked the idea of having there own space on the net...just about them...
Reply:It connects people and you can make friends across the world. People think it's awesome to have a buddy of there's in Japan or California. It's just really cool that in this era you can have a friend across the world. It's also nice to connect with different people.
